Helping people in the North Cotswolds

NORTH COTSWOLD
VOLUNTARY HELP CENTRE
This service provides transport for those who need to meet appointments, have no transport of their own and are unable to use public transport. This is particularly useful for the elderly, though not exclusively so. Priority is given to appointments for medical need, but, wherever possible, journeys to meet social need are undertaken.
Drivers do not charge for their time, but a charge of 50 pence per mile is made to the client to cover the driver’s costs. This charge includes all of the miles travelled by the driver and every attempt is made to ensure that the allocation of drivers is prioritised on the closest available driver.
There is a minimum charge of £3 for any return drive under 6 miles.
The client pays for the return journey even if he/she only is only travelling on the outward or inward part of the journey.
The driver will wait up to 2 hours to return the client but if the wait time exceeds 2 hours, the client is liable to pay a supplement of 10% - ie an extra 5p per mile .
The centre requires 48 hours notice to allocate volunteer drivers but in exceptional circumstances, will attempt to arrange a driver in a shorter time.
