Welcome

The North Cotswolds Voluntary Help Centre offers transport and sitting services to residents of the North Cotswolds. The Centre is based in the offices of the Cotswold District Council in the High Street, Moreton in Marsh and delivers services as far south as Northleach, west to Dowdeswell, north to Mickleton and east to Adlestrop.

TRANSPORT

This service provides transport for those who need to meet appointments, have no transport of their own and are unable to use public transport. This is particularly suitable for the elderly, though not exclusively so. Priority is given to appointments for medical need, but, whenever possible, journeys to meet social need are undertaken. Drivers do not charge for their time, but a charge of 30p per mile is made to the client to cover fuel costs. The community transport service is open to those who have no transport and are elderly and/or frail; or have a disability (permanent or temporary); or are able bodied but have no access to public transport and do not have frequent or convenient access to a car.

SITTING AND BEFRIENDING

A sitting and befriending service is provided for those who are housebound, for anyone needing company, or for carers needing respite. We provide volunteers, who, for a few hours at regular intervals, visit and befriend elderly and disabled persons or those who are housebound and living alone.

Volunteers receive no payment for their time and care. However, wherever possible, we request that their traveling expenses are paid.

Volunteers need no qualifications. If you think you are kind, patient and understanding and think you could respond to the needs of elderly people, you could become a volunteer visitor.

VOLUNTEERING & SUPPORT

Volunteering can be a rewarding and fulfilling activity, with an enormous range of opportunities available. There are local and national services, the caring services, wildlife agencies, heritage trusts and many more.

At the Centre we hold a wide range of information and if we do not have what you are looking for, we can help you find it.

We are always looking for people to help us in the work of the charity - to assist with fund-raising opportunities, to man the telephone desks on a week-day morning, or to get involved in the charity's work.

New Chairman

Our previous Chairman, Chris Stephenson, very sadly died on 27 February 2010 after a long battle with ill health. Chris's knowledge, enthusiasm and good humour were very much appreciated and he is missed by everyone at the Centre. Our thoughts are with his wife and family.

We are pleased to welcome Jim Seedhouse as our acting Chairman. Jim has been a volunteer driver for the Centre for at least the past 6 months and we look forward to working with him to continue to provide our much needed services.
